Undergraduate research by Landscape Architecture student Maissa Eid sheds light on bird-friendly campus trees and shrubs

As part of AUB's Undergraduate Research Volunteer Program (URVP), third-year Landscape Architecture student Maissa Eid conducted a research study on plants and birds at AUB during AY 2020/2021.

Under the supervision of LDEM Professor Dr. Salma Talhouk who served as her research advisor, and with the support of Ranim Abi Ali, AUBotanic coordinator, and Fouad Itani, president of The Association for Bird Conservation in Lebanon (ABCL), Maissa identified trees and shrubs on the AUB campus that benefit birds that reside on campus or fly over it. Through the GIS map of AUBotanic's database, the beneficial plant species were located and from that, Maissa was able to map important vantage points for bird watching.

The study was published as a booklet by AUBotanic in November 2021.
