Agribusiness Year 1 Students registered in AGSC 203 course were accompanied by course instructor Ms. Hana Sobh to a visit to Jardin d'Azur Nursery on Tuesday February 15, 2022. Jardin d'Azur is a family owned nursery located in the heart of Beirut, which is something very exceptional in our current times.
The students had the chance to learn how to differentiate between monocot and dicot plants in terms of leaves, flowers, stems and roots. During their field visit, they were also able to see different types of ornamental indoor and outdoor plants in addition to fruit trees like avocado, mango, and citrus of different varieties, Pomelo, Kumquat, sour orange, lemons and caviar lemons, and learn several propagation methods (sexual and asexual plant propagation). Students also learned about the importance of grafting for fruit trees because of the resistance of the rootstock and its adaptation to alkaline soils (example of grafting of citrus trees on sour oranges in Lebanon).
