The kickoff meeting for the newly awarded PRIMA project, Boosting Nexus Framework Implementation in the Mediterranean (BONEX), took place on the 18th and 19th of May in Malaga, Spain. Dr. Walid El Kayal, principal investigator and Assistant Professor at the Department of Agriculture, presented AUB's work-package study under the project.
A prototype will be established at AREC in collaboration with
NovaEnergia (NE). It will demonstrate a specialized agrivoltaic system through a controlled environment greenhouse outfitted with tracker PV that produces net-positive energy. This solution, known as the Agrigen Solar Tracker system (AGST), complements the current portfolio of NE technologies, which commercializes a variety of greenhouse solutions. The system's efficiency and feasibility will be assessed in light of the numerous benefits, including those affecting the ecosystem, such as lower greenhouse gas emissions.
