Ranim Koleilat, BLA alumna with an MS in Ecosystem Management from LDEM, has established the first of its kind pop-up studio for nature-inspired activities in the Middle East The Nature Bus: play, learn and reconnect to nature. The objective of this initiative, launched on March 19th, is to help improve the well-being and health of children and their communities by offering meaningful encounters with nature and providing positive learning opportunities, under the concept of “Biophilia". Through this initiative, Ranim is applying and further developing her graduate thesis on outdoor activities for kindergarten schools with marginal space and resources.
The Nature Bus hosts four main stations: Arts through Nature, Little Builders' Corner, Mud Kitchen (sensory zone), and The Nook (reading zone). The approach used across all activities is an unstructured open-ended play that will teach children to use elements of nature in various productive and creative ways. The benefits this has on a child's development are numerous including physical, social, physiological, cognitive, and emotional development.
