LDEM launched a new activity, the 'LDEM Community Seminar Series' on February 18, 2022. This initiative was conceptualized by LDEM and organized by Dr. Salma Talhouk and LDEM staff (Nadine Modad and Zahraa Swaydan). The purpose of the series is for all LDEM graduate students and research assistants to get better acquainted and to introduce their current and/ or future research work to colleagues in the department in an informal atmosphere where refreshments are served. During each session, two members are randomly selected to briefly present their work followed by a discussion.
During the first meeting, Drs. Talhouk and Abunnasr gave an overview about the LDEM Department, Faculty and Staff. Then, Heather Assed (Ecosystem Management graduate student) presented her thesis topic on 'the struggle over agroecology in the Levant: a Critical discourse analysis', which was followed by a lively discussion on the topic. On February 25, Ranim Abi Ali (AUBotanic coordinator) gave a presentation on the history, achievements; current and planned works of AUBotanic and ECOM graduate student Meshach Aderele presented on his recently selected thesis topic on 'Mapping of Ecosystem Services using remote sensing and GIS techniques'.
