Mohamad G. Abiad attends FunTomP Project Board Meeting in Izmir, Turkey

The board meeting for the Functionalized Tomato Products (FunTomP) project funded under the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) was held at Ege University in Izmir, Turkey, between the 30th of June and the 2nd of July. The project includes a consortium of 16 partners from eight countries (Turkey, Lebanon, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Tunisia, and Greece).

FunTomP's objective is to reevaluate traditional Mediterranean foods by considering global food trends and utilizing new food processing technologies such as microwave technology, supercritical fluid extraction, high-pressure processing (HPP), and high-power ultrasound (HPU). FunTomP will redesign tomato products to incorporate plant proteins and olive powder. Dr. Mohamad G. Abiad, Professor at the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences and principal investigator for Lebanon,  leads the product development efforts on the project.
