In celebration of the World Diabetes Day, the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences (NFSC) at FAFS, and in collaboration with the Howard Karagueuzian Commemoration Center (HKCC), organized a diabetes awareness event on Friday December 3rd at the HKCC center in Bourj Hammoud, Beirut.
Dietetic interns within the NFSC department, and under the supervision of Dr Lamis Jomaa, prepared interactive educational material and activities (educational presentations, activities and leaflets) that highlighted the theme of the year “Access to Diabetes Care: If Not Now, When?" More than 70 participants joined the diabetes awareness workshop that aimed at raising awareness about the prevention and management of diabetes in its different types through healthy eating and lifestyle behaviors, particularly during these critical circumstances that the country has been enduring. The event was another successful community activity led by the NFSC department in its mission to serve the local community and to raise awareness about public health and nutrition challenges while promoting healthy and sustainable solutions.
