Associate Professor Yaser Abunnasr was appointed as Associate Dean of FAFS, effective January 3, 2022. Dr. Abunnasr holds a PhD in Regional Planning and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS), where he also taught at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at UMASS for two years before joining the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem management in 2010 as an Assistant Professor.
Prior to his academic career, Dr. Abunnasr worked in the private sector and established his own design and built firm. Dr. Abunnasr is currently the Chair of LDEM (Since January 2020) and Program coordinator of the BLA program (since 2018), where he spearheaded the accreditation process of the BLA program received in September 2021 by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board. The BLA program is the first accredited program outside the USA worldwide. His teaching duties have included design studios, landscape ecology, and green infrastructure at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests are broadly divided into three main areas: Nature-based solutions for climate change adaptation, ameliorating urban climates, and the protection and conservation of natural and cultural landscapes. He also has extensive AUB service including, serving on the USFC committee, participating in the university wide accreditation process, chairing the LDEM review committee prior to accreditation, participating and chairing several faculty and administrative recruitment committees across AUB.
