  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

"This new merit-based scholarship will be awarded to several top incoming students across all faculties who have distinguished themselves both inside and outside the classroom and have a proven commitment to the pursuit of excellence for the greater good."

About the President's Merit Scholarship Program

Number of awardees per faculty/school: up to 10 per cohort

Starting date: New students entering in fall 2024-25

Application submission: By invitation only

Application Process

Eligibility

First-year students (freshmen, sophomore and medical)
Students with full tuition scholarships are not eligible

Application

Admissions applications are screened and potential awardees are identified based on high school grades and SAT scores
Potential awardees will receive an email inviting them to apply
Invitees submit the online scholarship application

Additional Requirements

submit a CV
write essays detailing the merit and nature of their academic, personal and leadership achievements
provide supporting evidence of described qualifications and achievements (certificates, portfolios, news, etc.)
attend an interview

Criteria

High school grades (grades 10 and 11), SAT scores, and admissions composite score
Exceptional academic and leadership achievements and potential
Impact in both school and community
Interview assessment
