Professor in Linguistics. He taught at the Faculty of Arts, Lebanese University (Department of Arabic Language and Literature), from 1982 to 2013. He has been teaching part-time in the Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages at the American University (Beirut) since 1988.
The courses he teaches focus on both, traditional and modern linguistics.
He is currently supervising, at the Lebanese University, students who are conducting research about the Arabic language for master's and doctorate degrees. His research interests include: phonology and its relation to other linguistic sciences such as morphology, syntax and philology; interactions among different languages; curriculum development; and methods of learning and teaching grammar.
