Jawdat Fakhreddine is a poet and a university professor. He has published more than ten poetry collections and participated in several poetry conferences in the Arab world and outside it. He was awarded the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2014. His poems have been translated into German, French, and English. Most recently, an English translation of his collection Lighthouse for the Drowning was published in the United States by BOA Editions. The translation was done by Prof. Huda Fakhreddine and Prof. Jayson Iwen and was included in the Lannan Translation Series. In academia, he taught for over forty years, most of which were at the Lebanese University. He was a visiting professor at Indiana University, Bloomington for the academic year 2008-2009. He is the author of many articles and critical studies and has published two books in literary criticism.
