The CAMES Summer Arabic Program will take place on AUB campus from June 11-July 30, 2025.

- PLACEMENT EXAM DEADLINE: Once you submit an application, you will receive an email with the Arabic placement exam which you should complete remotely. The deadline to submit the completed placement exam is May 7, 2025. We will issue a letter of acceptance only after we receive your completed placement exam.

***Please read the CAMES Summer Arabic Program Policies and Regulations carefully. Enrolling in the programs indicates that you have read them and agree to abide by them.
Application Checklist:
***Note: there is no application fee to apply to the CAMES Summer Arabic Program.***
- Click on Apply Now to create an account or log in through your AUB account
- Click “Start New Application”
- On the drop-down menu choose “Graduate Application” (which is for both graduate and undergraduate applicants) and click “create application” and then “open application”
- This takes you to a page titled “Program of Study” where there are two drop-down menus, one called “Degree Level” and the second called “Program”
- Under the “Degree Level” menu, select “Graduate Certificate” (which is for both graduate and undergraduate applicants), and “CAMES Arabic Summer Program” will appear on the “Program” drop-down menu.
- From there you can select CAMES Arabic Summer Program and click “continue” to begin the application process.
You will be asked to upload the following documents so please have them ready:
- Unofficial transcripts
- Scan of your passport
- Arabic writing sample (if applicable)
- Writing Sample: For all applicants except those applying to one of the Introductory levels (Arabic Language & Culture or Lebanese Colloquial Arabic): An unaided writing sample in Arabic (175-200 words). Your Arabic writing sample can be on any topic, but it must be your own writing with no editing or assistance by anyone else or use of any translation programs. We need to see real evidence of where you are with Arabic at the moment.
- Documents required to apply for funding/scholarships:
- A letter from the financial aid department of the student's home institution stating that they currently receive need-based financial aid and including details about the aid they receive
- A scan of the award letter that was issued to the student by their funding body with details about the aid they receive
- A financial aid statement from the student which provides details (in 250-300 words) about the student's financial aid situation including the following points:
- How much the student/their family can contribute to the CAMES summer Arabic program
- The amount/percentage of funding the student hopes to receive
- Recommendation letters: the CAMES Summer Arabic Program requires two letters of recommendation. You will be asked to enter the contact details of your recommenders on the application form. Your recommenders will receive an email with instructions on how to upload the letters.
- If you are applying to one of the Introductory levels (Arabic Language & Culture or Lebanese Colloquial Arabic) we require two letters of recommendation from academic referees.
- If you are applying for any other level besides Introductory, we require two letters of recommendation from academic referees: one from your Arabic instructor and one from another academic referee.
- If you are no longer in college and are currently employed, you may still submit two letters of recommendation from academic referees; OR you may provide one letter from your employer and one from an academic referee.

All participants in the CAMES Summer Arabic Programs must commit to the following pledge:
“I hereby commit myself to use Arabic as fully as possible throughout the summer programs at the American University in Beirut, in all classes and activities, with all participants in the program. In doing so, I aspire to maximize my learning this summer and help my colleagues maximize theirs as well.”
