Since the beginnings of CASAR we have held a biennial conference that focuses on shifts in the field of American studies, especially concerning the United States' changing relationship with the Middle East. In addition to the conferences listed below, CASAR takes part in hosting and sponsoring several international conferences on various topics throughout each school year. The biennial CASAR conferences are distinguished, however, insofar as they are the sole initiative of CASAR and they convene with a biennial regularity that does not depend on the vision of the center's changing directors or Edward Said chairpersons. Instead, they are a stable, ongoing part of CASAR's overarching role in deepening the pursuit of American studies in the Arab World.
