Shady Elbassuoni is an assistant professor at the Computer Science Department of the American University of Beirut. He received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Alexandria University, Egypt and his master and PhD degrees from Max-Planck Institute and Saarland University in Germany. During his PhD, Shady worked on tackling various problems in the areas of information extraction and retrieval. In particular, he developed novel models for effective and efficient searching of RDF knowledge bases. During his PhD, Shady also joined Yahoo! Research Lab in Barcelona as a research Intern where he worked on keyword search for RDF Data. After graduating from Max-Planck Institute, Shady joined Qatar Computing Research Institute as a postdoctoral researcher in the Data Analytics team where he worked on information extraction from social media for crisis management.
