Jack Nurpetlian

  • Lecturer, Department of History and Archaeology, American University of Beirut (AUB), 2013 - present
  • PhD, University of Warwick, United Kingdom, 2012. Dissertation title: Coinage in Roman Syria, the Orontes Valley

Research Interests

  • Roman provincial coins of the Syro-Phoenician territories:

My aim is to narrow the gap in our understanding of these coinages by studying the production, circulation, and metrology of the various issues produced in the region.

  • Ancient Armenian coins:

My interest in this area is to revisit and expand on former classifications by adding newly exposed material, with a special emphasis on the late Hellenistic and early Roman periods.

  • member of the BERYTOS project (Marburg University, Germany) to publish the coins excavated from Beirut's City Center (funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation)
  • member of the Roman Provincial Coinage Project: a multi-volume definitive publication of the coinages of the Roman East
