The Anthropology Day 2026 Competition concluded on May 22, 2026, when shortlisted students were invited to visit the AUB campus, attend an anthropology class given by Dr. Kirsten Scheid, Professor of Anthropology at AUB, learn about the artifacts and collections at the AUB Archaeological Museum and the Jaffet Library, and exhibit their projects. At the end of the day, a ceremony was held in the Basile Antoine Meguerdiche Conference Hall (IFI), where the opening remarks were given by the chair of the Sociology, Anthropology & Media Studies Department, Dr. Blake Atwood. The ceremony also included a roundtable themed “Why Anthropology Matters,” moderated by Narod Seroujian, organizer of Anthropology Day and Instructor of Anthropology at AUB; participants included Dr. Sylvain Perdigon, Associate Professor of Anthropology at AUB, Lynn Abdel Malak, Lecturer in Political Science and Sociology at Université La Sagesse (ULS), Nour Al Halabi, visual anthropologist and program coordinator at the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and Hassan Hussein, graduating student from the BA in Sociology & Anthropology program at AUB.
At the end of the ceremony,
Narod Seroujian delivered reflections on the competition and the student projects, and
Karen Takkouche, coordinator of the competition and the event, gave a few heartfelt remarks to the participating students, after which all 40 students received certificates of participation. Three certificates of recognition were awarded to high schools for their contributions and engagement in the success of the competition:
Irfan High School (Hasbaya), Hasbaya Public High School, and Al Ikhaa National School (Beirut). Finally, the six main winners were announced and awarded prizes.
