THE ARABIC MUSIC ENSEMBLE OF AUB ZAKI NASSIF PROGRAM
The Arabic Music Ensemble of AUB Zaki Nassif Program, is a true phenomenon of a 'cultural start-up.' It was launched on February 17, 2016, in celebration of AUB's 150th Anniversary and Zaki Nassif’s centennial. The inaugural performance, which took place on this historic occasion, resonated immediately with an audience eager for songs from the Lebanese Music Renaissance of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.
The momentum carried forward to a second equally successful event on April 9, 2016, at Amman’s Royal Cultural Center. Two additional performances followed on August 6 at the 2016 Douma Festival in the presence of FAS Dean Nadia Cheikh and on October 26 at Masrah Al Madina, concluding the twentieth-anniversary celebrations of Al Madina Theater. Notable personalities in attendance included AUB President Dr. Fadlo R. Khuri, LAU President Dr. Joseph Jabra, Mrs. Lamia Tammam Salam, and Mrs. Nidal Ashkar.
The Arabic Music Ensemble of the Zaki Nassif Program was honored to conclude the festivities marking AUB’s one-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary on December 7, 2016, with an outdoor concert at College Hall, attended by President Fadlo R. Khuri and Vice Presidents Hassan Diab and Imad Baalbaki. The concert's finale featured a group of AUB students enthusiastically performing dabkeh, accompanied by the Ensemble playing Zaki Nassif’s 'Rajeh Ytaamar Lebnan.'
The Ensemble has evolved into a live phenomenon of a 'true cultural start-up,' uniting a vibrant community of AUB students, staff, and alumni as vocalists and musicians who interpret pieces from the profound cultural heritage of Lebanon and the Arab World.
Since its inception in 2016, the choir of the Ensemble has grown from thirty-five to fifty vocalists, and the number of instrumentalists has increased from fifteen to twenty-seven as of 2019. Up until 2019, the Ensemble was conducted by retired Lebanese Army General George Herro; since then, Maestro Fady Yacoub has taken over as the conductor, with Ms. Manal Bou-Malhab leading the choir direction. The Ensemble performs regularly once every three months.
And in 2024, the Ensemble has been selected to perform an Oriental Music Night at the Al Bustan International Festival.

ظاهرة حقيقية لانطلاقة ثقافية
بمناسبة العيد ال 150 للجامعة الأميركية في بيروت ومئوية زكي ناصيف، تم إطلاق فرقة الموسيقى العربية لبرنامج زكي ناصيف في الجامعة الاميركية في بيروت في 17 شباط 2016. وقد تميز أدائها الاول بتفاعل ساحر وفوري مع الجمهور التواق لموسيقى عصر النهضة اللبنانية في الخمسينيات والستينيات والسبعينات.
هذا الزخم قاد الى حدث مماثل في 9 نيسان 2016 في المركز الثقافي الملكي في عمان، تلاها حفلان ناجحان، أحدهما في مهرجانات دوما في 6 آب، والثاني في مسرح المدينة في 26 تشرين الأول بمناسبة اختتام الاحتفالات بالعيد العشريين لمسرح المدينة.
كما كان لفرقة الموسيقى العربية لبرنامج زكي ناصيف شرف اختتام الاحتفال بالعيد المائة والخمسون للجامعة في 7 كانون الثاني 2016 في حفل أقيم في الباحة الأمامية للكولج هول، في حضور رئيس الجامعة الدكتور فضلو خوري ونائبي الرئيس حسان دياب وعماد بعلبكي. وقد تميز اختتام الحفل بدبكة مذهلة أداها مجموعة من طلاب الجامعة رافقت الفرقة على وقع أنغام أغنية راجع يتمعر لبنان" لزكي ناصيف.
إن فرقة الموسيقى العربية لبرنامج زكي ناصيف في الجامعة هي ظاهرة “انطلاقة ثقافية حقيقية”. حلقت منذ البدء وادت على مدار السنين منذ تأسيسها وعلى رغم الازمات المتتالية، أربعة حفلات في السنة وهي توعد باحتفالات مستقبلية تتحدث عن روعة الموسيقى اللبنانية والعربية. والفرقة تضم مجتمع نابض بالحياة من طلاب وموظفي وخريجي الجامعة منهم منشدون ومنهم موسيقيون ادوا مقطوعات من التراث الثقافي العميق للبنان والعالم العربي.
منذ تأسيسها في عام 2016، نمت جوقة الفرقة من خمسة وثلاثين إلى خمسين مطربًا، وزاد عدد العازفين الموسيقيين من خمسة عشر إلى سبعة وعشرين. حتى العام 2019، قاد الفرقة العميد المتقاعد في الجيش اللبناني الجنرال جورج حرّو؛ منذ ذلك الحين، تولى المايسترو فادي يعقوب المهمة كمدير موسيقي. وتدرب جوقة الفرقة الآنسة منال بو ملهب.
وتؤدي الفرقة بانتظام حفلٌ واحد كل ثلاثة أشهر.
وفي العام 2024، تم اختيار الفرقة لأداء ليلة موسيقية شرقية في مهرجان البستان الدولي.
