Assistant or associate professor for Medical Imaging Sciences program

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut currently seeks for its Medical Imaging Sciences program candidates with a Doctoral degree in Diagnostic Radiography, Medical Imaging Sciences, Radiation Sciences, Medical Imaging, Medical Physics, or related disciplines at the rank of assistant or associate professor depending on qualifications. Full professors and visiting positions at all levels may be considered.

FHS was established in 1954 as the first school of public health in the Arab world. At the undergraduate level, FHS offers a bachelor's degree (BS) in Environmental Health (EH), Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS), Medical Imaging Sciences (MIS) and Medical Audiology Sciences (MAS). MLS, MIS and MAS are interdisciplinary programs offered by the Division of Health Professions, which is coordinated jointly with the Faculty of Medicine. The Graduate Public Health Program (GPHP) at FHS includes a Master of Public Health (MPH) with three different concentrations, an Executive Master in Healthcare Leadership, and two Master of Science programs. The MPH is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).

The Bachelor's Program in Medical Imaging Sciences (MIS) builds on more than 40 years of expertise in teaching radiography at the diploma level.  During the first year of study, students take basic science and elective courses. In the second and third years, students learn in-depth theory and applications in sub-specialized fields within medical imaging sciences. Courses are designed and timed to work in parallel with clinical training at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC).  The program enrolls approximately 12 new students each year.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Clinical teaching experience
  • Expertise in different imaging technologies
  • Demonstrated research agenda based on published works and/or external funding
  • Evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations
Teaching responsibilities include: delivering basic and advanced courses in medical imaging to undergraduate students and supervising practicum work, as well as liaising with the instructors and supervising the students' final year projects. The successful candidate will also contribute to research and outreach programs of the Division of Health Professions and of FHS.

Communications Officer

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut (AUB) currently seeks a Communications Officer for its Communications Unit.  

The Communications Officer at FHS shall:

    • Develop and manage the marketing and communication strategy for FHS – including defining objectives and indicators of success
    • Implement activities to enhance visibility and promote FHS and its programs through different social and digital media channels – with attention to ensuring consistent messaging and branding
    • Supervise and engage in the update of the content of the Faculty, its Departments, and its Centers' websites
    • Supervise and engage in the production of publications and outputs (online, offline, audiovisual)
    • Work closely with Departments and Centers in the planning, developing and implementing of marketing communication campaigns for conferences, workshops, and meetings through different media, including social and digital
    • Advise Departments/ Centers and provide technical support on current and relevant digital media related tools, techniques, and resources available
    • Coordinate with the AUB Office of Communications on media relations  and other relevant issues
    • Coordinate with the AUB Office of Development
    • Ensure compliance with the communication and ethical standards of the University
    • Evaluate the progress of the communication strategy in achieving objectives and targets
    • Report to the Dean
The candidate shall preferably hold a graduate degree in communication/marketing or a relevant discipline, have a good understanding of public health and a credible track record of professional experience relevant to the position.

In addition to her/his technical and professional skills, the ideal candidate shall demonstrate the following:

  • A minimum of five years' experience of marketing communications across multiple media/routes to internal and external audiences
  • Excellent management skills, and skills in project implementation, troubleshooting and monitoring, preferably in an academic and/or health setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and willingness to instill a team spirit and coordinate with people within and outside FHS and AUB
  • Record of collaborative work with other entities such as academic institutions, external partners and community based organisations
  • Previous experience leading a team and developing/implementing strategies is necessary
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent computer literacy

Assistant Communications Officer 

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut (AUB) currently seeks an Assistant Communications Officer for its Communications Unit. 

The Assistant Communications Officer at FHS shall:

  • Write, edit and proofread news and feature stories and other content for online news, and the FHS newsletter
  • Work closely with Departments and Centers in the writing, editing and proofing of all products generated (event flyers, booklet covers, ads, promotional and marketing material)
  • Gather information from Departments/Centers/faculty members to “write the story" and report their activities through different media channels
  • Write news releases, media advisories, social media promotions and print and online materials as needed.
  • Confer regularly with unit team members to determine possible story ideas for newsletter and external media sources
  • Design and publish  a newsletter  on a regular basis that reports on faculty, student, and alumni achievements
  • Produce different online, offline, and audiovisual publications and outputs
  • Keep the Faculty, Departments, and Centers websites relevant and updated
  • Monitor FHS communications for accurate and consistent compliance with communication and ethical standards of  University
  • Report to the FHS communications officer
The candidate shall preferably hold a Bachelor's Degree in journalism, digital media, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

The ideal candidate shall demonstrate the following:

  •  At least three years' professional experience relevant to the position
  •  Excellent oral, writing, proofreading and editorial skills in English and Arabic (French is a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to produce news releases, media advisories and other content using traditional, social and online media
  • Ability to use different  social media, such as you tube and web design to update different department and center websites
  • Experience of working in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in using computer software. Knowledge of Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio, multitrack audio recording and editing software in addition to familiarity with consumer level applications like iMovie, GarageBand, MovieMaker and Photostory is a plus.

The candidate will be appointed at the rank of research assistant.
