Outreach and Practice Unit (OPU)

The mission of the Outreach and Practice Unit is to advance public health practice at the faculty to impact the health of populations in Lebanon and the region. The OPU aims to facilitate the transfer of skills and knowledge in the field of public health, building community partnerships, developing human capabilities, endorsing service learning, and enhancing the culture of collective responsibility.

The OPU operates in three main areas:

Training and Workforce Development, in which the OPU coordinates FHS training initiatives that contribute to the development of human capital and capability in public health in Lebanon and the region, by offering diverse, multidisciplinary and financially sustainable training.

Community Engagement and Services, in which the OPU develops and implements community partnerships to promote individual and community health; and to advance service learning.

Informed Policy, where the OPU impacts policy-making in Lebanon and the region by transferring evidence based knowledge generated from rigorous and community-based research.

The OPU is made up of faculty members including Unit Coordinator, Professor Nasser Yassin who reports to the Dean of FHS and a team that coordinates the work of each of the three areas of operation: Trainings and Workforce Development, led by Professor Kassem Kassak; the Community Engagement and Services led by Ms. Aline Germani; and Informed Policy led by Professor Nasser Yassin.

The OPU is supported by an Advisory Committee of FHS faculty members and external resource persons.
