In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), the Injury and Concussion Awareness, Recognition, and Education (ICARE) program at MENA PAIR organized the 'Public Sector School Nurse Training' workshop at the American University of Beirut (AUB) on January 25, 2024.
Dr. Samar Al-Hajj, MENA PAIR Director and Assistant Research Professor, inaugurated the workshop and welcomed the public-school health supervisors who came from various regions across Lebanon. The workshop featured three specialized training sessions: 1) STOP THE BLEED, 2) Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT), and 3) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/ Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The training aimed at enhancing injury and safety capacities among school nurses and health supervisors. Mr. Rida Zeineddine, Simulation Technology Specialist (DAWSIM), performed the STOP THE BLEED hands-on training, a globally recognized program offered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to provide essential techniques to control severe bleeding in injured individuals. Dr. Samar Al-Hajj led the concussion and injury session providing findings on the latest TBI research conducted in the MENA region and Lebanon. MENA PAIR trainees Dr. Jawad Turfa (Diploma Graduate), and Nour Abou Khalil (PhD Candidate) provided medical insights on concussions, followed by training on the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT). Dr. Mona Osman, Assistant Professor of Clinical Specialty, along with the CHAMPS Fund team, provided an overview of sudden cardiac arrest in youth, particularly athletes, and hands-on training on CPR/AED.
Aligned with the core objectives of the Injury and Concussion Awareness, Recognition, and Education (ICARE) program established by MENA PAIR in June 2023, the workshop equipped public school supervisors with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources for the prevention, recognition, and effective management of injuries and major health complications within educational settings. This capacity building training underscored MENA PAIR's commitment to fostering a safer and healthier environment for students through proactive education and training.
