The American University of Beirut (AUB) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) is proud to announce that its Public Health Program was granted full accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for seven years (2020-2026) with no interim reporting.
The Public Health Program includes the master
of public health, master of science in epidemiology, master of science in
environmental health, and the PhD in epidemiology, as well as the newly launched
bachelor of arts in health communication.
This is the second re-accreditation given by CEPH to FHS and the first without
requiring interim reporting—a remarkable achievement given that only 15 percent of
more than 200 public health schools and programs that applied between 2012 and
2019 received an unconditional accreditation. CEPH is an independent agency
recognized by the US Department of Education that accredits leading schools and
programs of public health within the US and globally. The Council’s mission is to
assure “quality in public health education and training to achieve excellence in
practice, research, and service through collaboration with organizations and
community partners.”
In 2006, the FHS public health program was the first to be accredited by CEPH outside
the Americas and it remains the only CEPH-accredited program in the Arab region.
Internationally, it is one of only nine non-US public health programs to hold CEPH
accreditation. This has allowed FHS to become a full member of the Association of
Schools and Programs of Public Health and to join the Delta Omega Honorary Society
in Public Health, which are recognitions of academic excellence limited to CEPH-accredited schools and programs. Such recognition for FHS comes with a responsibility
to carry the voice of the Arab region internationally and to represent academic public
health from a Global South perspective.
