New NIA grant for AUB and UoM to lead a study on "dementia and related health and social challenges in Lebanon".

‚ÄčThe American University of Beirut (AUB) together with University of Michigan (UM) were awarded a grant from the National Institute on Ageing (NIA) for a new application on: ‚ÄúDementia and Related Health and Social Challenges in Lebanon: A Population Study".  Dr. Carlos Mendes De Leon from UM is the lead Principal Investigator from UM with Zeina Mneimneh, Kenneth Langa, and Brady West as Co-Investigators. 

The team from AUB consists of Drs Monique Chaaya (PI), Abla Sibai, Sawsan abdulRrahim, Hala Ghattas as Co PIs (FHS) and Dr. Martine El Bejjani from FM and affiliate to FHS as Co-Investigator. 

This five-year grant aims to develop capacity for longitudinal survey research for researchers in Lebanon, and to develop a new population based cohort study, recruiting 3000 adults aged 60+ to participate in a structured assessment of dementia, caregiver needs, and other health and social domains necessary to understand the challenges of population aging in Lebanon.
