COVID-19 Outbreak

Message from Chairperson Dr. Marie Aouad-Maroun

Anesthesiologists encounter and care for patients with suspected/confirmed COVID-19, in their roles as experts in airway management, intensive care, and perioperative anesthesia. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine continues to provide state-of-the-art patient care practices, while prioritizing the safety of its healthcare workers as well as its patients.

A departmental COVID-19 taskforce was formed, and consisted of expert anesthesiologists Dr. Ghassan Kanazi, Dr. Mohamad Khatib, Dr. Roland Kaddoum, Dr. Sahar Sayyid, Dr. Carine Zeeni, Dr. Carine Foz, as well as chief resident Dr. Layal Abou Daher, and anesthesia therapists supervisor Mrs. Nathalie Daye. The taskforce members advise the department chairperson on all aspects of addressing the evolving pandemic situation at the departmental level; i.e. monitoring and assessing the situation, collecting and revising landmark resources on the novel COVID-19, developing departmental COVID-19 preparedness and response plans, in conjunction with the institutional preparedness framework.

With the assistance of the taskforce members, our department has devised a set of best practices available below.
