  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members.   AUB is accredited in the US by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and includes six faculties: Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture, Agricultural and Food Sciences, Health Sciences, and Business. AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

The Clinical Research Institute (CRI) was established in 2010 to provide the required infrastructure to support and promote innovative clinical research and collaborative activities at the Faculty of Medicine and American University of Beirut Medical Center, thus leading to discoveries, advancement of clinical practice and improvement in patient care outcomes.

CRI has four units: Biostatistics Unit (BSU), Clinical Epidemiology Unit (CEU), Clinical Research Unit (CRU), and Research Education Unit (REU) and one center: AUB GRADE Center.

CRI offers four research education programs: Faculty Advancement Program in Clinical Research (FAP), Fellowship and Residency Research Program (FRRP), Nursing Advancement Program (NAP) and Research Personnel Program (RPP).
