Advanced Technology

Under the direction of Dr. El-Hajj Fuleihan, the Calcium Metabolism and Osteoporosis Program Bone Densitometry Unit offers state-of-the-art densitometry and advanced technology. This includes trabecular bone score measurement, hip structural analysis, body composition, and visceral fat assessment. The BMD Unit at AUBMC is the only center in Lebanon and the region in which all faculty and technologists are certified by the ISCD. It abides by the most rigorous quality assurance standards and provides over 3,000 bone density scans per year for clinical and research purposes. The unit has initiated the process to secure ISCD “facility accreditation.” If successful, it would be the first accredited BMD unit outside the United States.

Bone density and body composition measurements that fulfill the highest international standards in our program, are an integral asset of our program’s clinical and research operations, distinguishing it as a unique regional center of excellence.
