Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine, American University of Beirut. Established circa 1920, the department is devoted to enhancing our understanding of the molecular and cellular processes associated with human diseases, and to educate and train the next generation of scientists. Our Faculty are engaged in very diverse areas of cutting-edge research that include inflammation, fibrotic and metabolic disorders, mitochondrial disorders, vascular and renal complications of diabetes, signal transduction, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathies, cancer, traumatic brain injury, neurogentic disorders, sphingolipid biology, genetics of skin disorders, and genomics, proteomics and bioinformatic analyses of complex diseases. The Department is located on the 4th floor of the newly renovated Diana Tamari Sabbagh building, with access to core facilities and centers of excellence providing a conducive environment for collaborative research and versatile opportunities for training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
