​​​​​​Clinical Dermatology

An integral part of the functions of the Department of Dermatology at AUBMC is to offer several relevant medical services similar to those available in major centers in Europe and the USA. The Clinical services provided by the department of dermatology cover out-patients and in-patients. These include general dermatology, dermatopathology, phototherapy, dermato-oncology, genodermatosis, dermatologic and laser medicine and surgery cosmetic/ hair and nail.

Procedural & Cosmetic Dermatology

Dermatopathology

Skin biopsies are processed and interpreted in the department. A fully qualified dermatopathologist, trained in the USA, reads and reports on the pathologic findings. The dermatopathology service is an extension of the department where all types of sophisticated and recent tests and investigations are performed. Dermatopathologic interpretation and reporting are also open to skin biopsies sent from all over the country and the region, as well.

Phototherapy

Phototherapy consists of exposing the skin to ultraviolet (UV) light with or without the intake or application of medications. This modality of treatment is currently very popular and is indicated for many diseases of the skin. Special UV chambers and contact phototherapy units are available at the department. These units are the most modern and represent the state-of-the-art ones. UVA, UVB and narrow-band UVB treatments are administered. The procedure is supervised by a trained nurse and a member of the housestaff. The equipment is regularly checked and calibrated by medical engineering personnel.

​Laser therapy

This therapeutic modality has become en vogue in recent years, and lasers constitute an essential armamentarium of any modern hospital. The department is equipped with the most up-to-date units for laser therapy. A hair epilation laser, Smoothbeam laser and Cutera Platform are on hand. The procedures are performed by qualified members of the Faculty who have had special training in the art.​
