​The Beirut Breast Imaging Masterclass 2019

Dr. Lara Nassar, from the Division of Breast Imaging at AUBMC, jointly with Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), and Institut Curie (Paris-France) organized The Beirut Breast Imaging Masterclass 2019 that took place on October 4 and 5, 2019. This course was held at Hilton Habtour Hotel in Sin El Fil and was heavily attended by healthcare professionals from multiple medical fields. 

Dr. Rayane Issa, PGY5 and Chief Resident in Diagnotic Radiology at AUBMC, presented the talk "Spectrum of Imaging Appearances of Stromal Fibrosis of the Breast", and Dr. Catherina Zadeh, PGY4 Resident in Diagnotic Radiology at AUBMC, presented "Predictors of Malignancy in Hyperechoic Breast Lesions​" at the conference. 

​The Second AUBMC Theranostics Conference

The Division of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Cyclotron Facilities and the Department of Diagnostic Radiology held the Second AUBMC Theranostic Conference at Halim and Aida Daniel Academic and Clinical Center (ACC) at AUBMC on September 6 and 7, 2019. World renowned experts gathered to discuss cutting edge technologies and new therapeutic strategies in the field of theranotics. This event was endorsed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Arab Society of Nuclear Medicine (ARSNM) and the Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC).  



Saying Goodby to Dr. Fadi El-Merhi

​After 10 years of dedicated service as a faculty member in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Dr. Fadi El-Merhi was recruited as a faculty member at Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Boston, USA. Dr. El-Merhi was the director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency and Abdominal Imaging Fellowship training programs, and it was under his directorship that the residency program obtained ACGME-I accreditation in 2016 and re-accreditation in 2019. 

The department organised a gathering to thank Dr. El-Merhi for his years of service and wish him the best of luck in his future endevours. 

  

2019 Graduation Party

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology held its annual graduation party at Hilton Downtown Hotel on June 14, 2019. The department celebrated the grauation of Dr. Sandra Abi Fadel, Dr. Maria El Homsi, Dr. Gilber Maround and Dr. Rida Salman who completed tehir training in general radiology, Dr. Mohammad Abu shattal and Dr. Wakim Wakim who completed their one year fellowships in Abdominal Imaging, and Dr. Ibrahim Alsheikh Deeb who completed ne year of training in Nuclear Radiology. ​

Dr. Abi Fadel was accepted at Yale University to persue fellowship training in Neuroradiology.

Dr. El Homsi was accepted at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine to persue fellowship training in Body Imaging. 

Dr. Maroun was accepted at the University of Toronto in the Interventional Radiology Fellowship program.

Dr. Salman was accepted at Texas Children's Hospital to pursue further training in Pediatric Imaging. 



Best Poster Award at the 6th Annual Clinical Research Open House

On May 17, 2019, graduating residents from the Department of Diagnostic Radiology participated in the 6th Annual Clinical Research Open House organized by the Office of Clinical and Translational Research and the Clinical Research Institute (CRI) at AUBMC. All final year residents participated in poster presentations and Dr. Maria El Homsi participated in the oral presentations. Dr. El Homsi took home the Best Poster Award for her project “Changes in thalamic volume and dimensions in developing children". 

 


ACGME-I Reaccreditation

In February 2019, the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program received the status of “Continued Accreditation" from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGME-I) after a thorough accreditation site visit. This achievement was possible with the dedicated efforts of the program leadership, faculty, residents and staff. The program is now reaccredited for three years, till 2022.   ​​​

End of Year Gatherings at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology 

​The Department of Diagnostic Radiology celebrated Christmas and the New Year with a gathering for all staff, residents and faculty members. The invitees were thanked for their hard work and dedication during the year 2018. The department also held a Secret Santa ​​reveal party on Dec 19, 2018. 




​​​​​​​​​​​Trainee Research Prize Received at the Annual RSNA Meeting 

Dr. Mohamad B Haidar's research team received the Trainee Research Prize from the RSNA Scientific Program Committee in the Nuclear Medicine category. Drs. Maria El Homsi (PGY V radiology resident), Dr. Andrew Barakat (PGY I radiology resident), and Dr. Basil Yacoub (research fellow) were among the researchers who contributed to the study entitled “Role of Early Dynamic PET/CT Imaging with 68Ga-PSMA in staging and Restaging of Prostate Cancer". The award winning project was presented as an abstract at the annual RSNA meeting in Chicago on Nov 26, 2018.


​​Conference on Oncologic Imaging

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the American University of Beirut, in collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, hosted the first conference on Oncologic Imaging on the 26th and 27th of October 2018. Local and international speakers discussed the role of radiology in the diagnosis and treatment of different types of cancer.


Residency Retreat

The Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program conducted the first retreat for residents and program leadership on September 8, 2018 at Grand Hills Resort in Broumana. The retreat tackled important topics including time management, wellbeing, stress management and teambuilding. Residents took the opportunity to thank Dr. El-Merhi for his dedicated efforts as Program Director before the start of his sabbatical leave later that month.



FRRP Best Oral Presentation Award

Dr. Mikhael Sebaaly (PGY VI radiology resident) received the First Prize for his oral presentation during the Fellowship and Residency Research Program Open House that was held at AUBMC on May 4, 2018. Dr. Sebaaly's project entitled “Optic Nerve Measurement on MRI in the Pediatric Population: Normative Values and Correlations" was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Roula Hourany.


2018 Graduation Dinner

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology held its annual graduation party at Saint George Yacht Club and Marina Beirut on May 18, 2018. The department celebrated the graduation of Dr. Ibrahim Alsheikh Deeb, Dr. Abdallah Araji, Dr. Fatima Salah and Dr. Mikhael Sebaaly. All program graduates were accepted into subspecialty fellowship programs at AUBMC and in the USA.




Best Case Award

Dr. Abdallah Araji (PGY VI radiology resident) won the “Best Case Award" for Genitourinary Imaging during the AIRP course that he attended between Feb 12, 2018 and March 9, 2018. The Department of Diagnostic Radiology sponsors all senior residents to attend the four week radiologic-pathologic correlation course that is held in Silver Springs, MD, USA.



AUBMC First Theranostics Conference: See What you Treat

The Division of Nuclear Medicine at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology organized the first Conference on Theranostics at AUBMC, Endorsed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Arab Society of Nuclear Medicine (ARSNM), Lebanese Atomic Energy Commission (LAEC), Lebanese Society of Nuclear Medicine (LSNM), Lebanese Society of Radiology (LSR), Lebanese Society of Medical Oncology (LSMO) and the Lebanese Urology Society (LUS). This conference took place on Nov 10 and 11, 2017 and featured renowned international speakers discussing the latest updates in the field of Nuclear Medicine and personalized treatment.


2017 Graduation Dinner

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology held the annual graduation dinner at Villa Linda Sursock on May 19, 2017. The department celebrated the graduation of Dr. Arwa Al Zaghal, Dr. Ola Ghaith, Dr. Nabil Yacoub and Dr. Bassem Malaeb.

Radiologic Technology Conference

On the occasion of the 5th Annual Radiologic Technology Week 2016, the Department of Diagnostic Radiology organized the Abdominal and Pelvic Pathologies in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Conference. The conference took place on Nov 12, 2016 and was heavily attended by staff and physicians from Lebanon.
