The Donor Room and Apheresis Facility
Provides blood collection, component therapy, processing, preparation, filtration, irradiation, storage, and release; including the following services:

The Musculoskeletal Tissue Bank
Stores harvested living donor (autologous and allogeneic) and cadaveric donor bone and tissue. These are stored at -80 C for future transplants.
Availability Of Staff/Staffing:
The Blood Bank is situated on the third floor of the AUB medical center and is available for patient care services twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, including holidays.
Blood Inventory:
The Blood Bank is a hospital-based donor collection and transfusion center. It depends on a blood replacement donor system as well as blood drives. All blood donors are volunteers.
The blood components are made available in the general inventory after internationally required screening tests are performed. The blood units are released after the compatibility tests are performed upon the written request of the physician.
Therapeutic Apheresis:
The Blood Bank also provides therapeutic apheresis upon the written request of the physician. The apheresis technologist with the clinical pathology resident, under the supervision and guidance of the Blood Bank medical director, run these procedures.
Accreditation:
The Blood Bank is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (cap) and the Stem Cell Processing Lab is accredited by the Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT & EBMT (JACIE).
The Blood Utilization Committee:
The Blood Utilization Committee functions as an advisory body to the Blood Bank and reports to the Chief of Staff. Dilemmas, transfusion reactions, requirements, and incidents are brought to the attention of the committee.
