    COURSE DETAILS

    Facilitated by distinguished specialists in the field, our online program offers an enriching learning journey for all participants. This meticulously designed curriculum comprises six comprehensive courses, affording participants the flexibility to progress at their own pace. Available around the clock and accessible from any location, the program is structured to be completed within a 12-month timeframe.

    MEET THE EXPERTS

    Dr. Rana Yamout
    Dr Yamout is an Anesthesiologist, Pain and Palliative care MD. She has been playing an active role in integrating Pain management and palliative care into the Lebanese healthcare system since 2015. Upon completing her Master of Research in Palliative Medicine and Pain Management Fellowship in France, she has led the establishment of the palliative care mobile unit at a private institution, and she has been a founding member of the palliative care and hospice unit at a tertiary center in Lebanon. She is currently the director of the palliative and supportive care program at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. She is the medical director at Balsam- The Lebanese Center for palliative care. She is currently the president of the Lebanese Society for the study of pain (LSSP) which is the Lebanese chapter of the IASP (The International Association for the study of pain). She is the founder and the president of the Lebanese palliative care society and a member of the IAHPC (international association for hospice and palliative care). Her research focuses on studying the impact of pain management and palliative care into the healthcare system and patient's outcome.

    Ms. Janane Hanna
    Janane Hanna holds a Master's degree in Nursing from the American University of Beirut. She has been certified as an Advanced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Certification from ONCC since 2011. She was appointed as an Academic Associates at Hariri School of Nursing, American University Of Beirut since 2016. In her role as a CNS for pain & palliative care at AUBMC, she played an important role in establishing the Hospital-based Palliative care service at AUBMC. She presented nationally and internationally about topics related to pain and palliative care. She Co-directed the first introductory course for palliative care to nurses in Lebanon through the Order of Nurses in Lebanon. She is a founding team member of Balsam, the Lebanese Center for Palliative Care. Her efforts locally have led her to be recognized internationally and she was selected in 2020 as a pioneer nurse in palliative care by a program led by St Christopher's Hospice, London and currently a champion in the Global Palliative Care Nursing Network.
    She pursued a fellowship in palliative care, an advanced course delivered by St Christopher's Hospice, London, in partnership with the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Kerala, India and has been a mentor on that fellowship course for past 3 years. She was among the members that wrote the recommendations for the palliative care chapter in the National Cancer Strategy of Lebanon for 2023 and now serving on the Advisory Committee of the implementation team.
    She is a member in many professional societies like Oncology Nursing Society, American Society of Pain Management Nursing, International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and Honor Society of Nursing Sigma, Theta Tau International. Currently Serving as Secretary of the Lebanese Society for the Study of Pain and a founding board member of the Palliative Care Nursing Association under the Order of Nurses.

    Ms. Angela Massouh
    Angela received her undergraduate nursing degree from the American University of Beirut [AUB] in 2004, her graduate degree in Adult Care in 2008, and her PhD in Biobehavioral Nursing from the University of Colorado, Denver in 2017. Her clinical expertise at the AUB Medical Center span bedside nursing in her roles as a Cardiology Registered Nurse then a Heart Failure Clinical Nurse Specialist where she co-led the Heart Failure Multidisciplinary Disease Management Program and the Heart and Lung Transplant service. She has 14 years of experience in academia.
    ​She is now an Assistant Professor of Adult and Critical Care Nursing, a Nurse Leader for Research, Education and Innovation and a Clinical Nurse Specialist. 

    Dr. Karim Farah

    Dr Farah is a pulmonologist and critical care physician graduated from the American University of Beirut Medical Center. His journey with palliative care started with the Lebanese home-based palliative care NGO Balsam in 2015 as a consultant physician. He continues to practice as a pulmonary and critical care at Bekhazi Medical Group and Bellevue medical center.  He joined the AUBMC palliative care team as of November 2019.
    He completed a certificate of fellowship online course delivered by Saint Christopher's hospice London during the month of November 2023. He is currently working on establishing a palliative care service at Bellevue Medical center.

    Dr. Aline Zakhem
    Dr. Zakhem clinical experience is mostly with hematology/Oncology patients as she has a subspecialty in Infectious Diseases of the Immunocompromised Host from the University of Texas- MD Anderson Cancer Center. As an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, Dr. Zakhem relies on a holistic and multidisciplinary approach for the management for her patients. She has a rich background in the field of Palliative care, as a consultant physician at Balsam, the Lebanese Center for Palliative care since 2015 as well as a medical Director for Balsam from 2018-2023.  In addition, Dr. Zakhem is passionate about teaching and was selected as a Van Dyke Medical Educator for Medical students at AUB. Furthermore, she was the instructor for the module of Palliative care at AUB for medical students for 2 years and has participated in many sessions for Palliative Care training in Lebanon. ​

    Ms. Rebecca El-Asmar

    Rebecca El-Asmar is an Adult Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, who has a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Nursing from the American University of Beirut, as well as an international certification as an Advanced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation. She has a long working experience at AUBMC in oncology nursing, and is also an Academic Associate at the Hariri School of Nursing at AUB. In addition to her oncology role, Rebecca is an experienced palliative care clinician. She is one of the founding members of Balsam – The Lebanese Center for Palliative Care, which is a community-based non-governmental organization based in Beirut and founded in 2010. She is also a member of the AUBMC Palliative Care Service. Working in palliative care in the community and the hospital setting has built on Rebecca's palliative care knowledge, skills, and autonomy in practice. In addition, she has obtained a fellowship in Palliative Care from the Institute of Palliative Medicine (Kerala, India) in collaboration with St. Christopher's Hospice (London, UK). She has attended and presented at many local and international conferences, in both fields of oncology and palliative care. Her passion for both fields make her a life-long learner who is eager to share knowledge and skills to enable others to grow in these fields.​
