The Department is one of the oldest in the region and has recently experienced a period of growth and rejuvenation. It is home to a group of dynamic faculty, staff and students from diverse backgrounds who are working to unravel mechanisms of disease and drug action, and identify drug targets, with the hope of eventually finding application and translation in the clinical sphere as therapy for various diseases. The two main areas of research focus within the Department are cardiovascular and pharmacogenetics research.
The Department is one of 4 basic biomedical science departments within the Faculty of Medicine and is located on the 3rd floor of the Diana Tamari Sabbagh Building. It offers a graduate program leading to the degree of Master of Science in Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences (which is an interdisciplinary program within the Faculty of Medicine) with a focus in pharmacology and toxicology. Our faculty members have forged multiple lines of collaboration with other researchers in the 4 basic science departments, in the clinical departments at the AUB Medical Center, and with other faculty members across the university.
The faculty is also committed to excellence in teaching medical, nursing and graduate students and in offering service to the Faculty of Medicine, University and the community at large.
