Mission

The mission of the Division of Neurosurgery is in alignment with the mission of the department in general:

  • to provide state of the art diagnosis and treatment of neurosurgical conditions for the people of Lebanon and the Middle East
  • to train academically oriented residents in the discipline of Neurosurgery
  • to be a leading institution in clinical and basic science research in the region

Structure

The division, is currently headed by Dr. Marwan Najjar and comprises 3 faculty members with expertise in providing diagnosis and management for a wide spectrum of neurological disorders for adults and children, including brain tumor surgery, spine surgery, epilepsy surgery, vascular and endovascular neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, and functional neurosurgery.

Under the directive of training academic neurosurgeons for the future, the division has a very competitive 7 year residency program and graduates one chief resident per year. Its neurosurgeons continue to be at the forefront of the treatment of patients with neurological diseases aiming at developing novel neurosurgical procedures, performing essential scientific research that leads to an increased understanding of neurological disease processes, and conducting carefully controlled clinical studies to test the effects of various treatment modalities.


 

Services/Procedures

The Division of Neurosurgery is active in the management of all neurosurgical conditions including the most complex; it has collaborated with several departments in the hospital in creating advanced services that are unique in the region.

Services provided by division staff include:

  • Brain tumor surgery
  • Pituitary surgery
  • Base of skull surgery
  • Neurovascular surgery
  • Epilepsy surgery
  • Functional and stereotactic surgery (including movement disorders)
  • Pediatric neurosurgery
  • Spine and complex spine surgery
  • Peripheral nerves

Services provided in a multidisciplinary setup:

  • Radiosurgery
  • Endovascular neurosurgery
  • Evaluation of patients with intractable epilepsy
  • Comprehensive management of brain tumors
