The residency training programs in the Department of Surgery differentiate it from other surgical departments in Lebanon and the region. Major resources have been allocated to enhance the educational programs offered to the surgical residents, providing programs and educational tools comparable to those available at prominent US University training programs. These include the SCORE curriculum, the ACS Fundamentals of Surgery curriculum, the American Board of Surgery In training Examination and a skills and simulation center. The investment in surgical education and training resulted in the accreditation of the General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedic Surgery residency training programs. The placement of our graduates into competitive fellowships in the US and Europe and the gratifying feedback we receive are great attestations to the quality of our residency training programs.
Great efforts have been made to enhance the medical students’ experience on the surgical rotations reflected by their supportive feedback and increased interest in joining our surgical residency programs.
The offering of valuable educational activities reinforced the educational role of the Department of Surgery in Lebanon and the region. The introduction of trauma courses such as the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course to the healthcare providers in Lebanon and the region, and the ACS General Surgery Review Course illustrate such activities.
The Department of Surgery also offers two-year fellowship training programs in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care, as well as Vascular Surgery.
