A Simulated/Standardized Patient (SP) is an individual who is trained to consistently portray a defined clinical scenario for the purpose of testing or teaching specific skills in the field of health care professionals. SPs are thoroughly coached to simulate every aspect of the patient case, from medical history and physical findings to body language and emotional characteristics.
The SP Program at the American University of Beirut was established for the purpose of standardizing the training of SPs and developing realistic clinical scenarios. The mission of the program is to support and deliver high-quality SP performance to aid in the training and assessment of learners at various stages in their medical education.
