The genetics research program at AUBFM is diverse and involves a variety of genetic, epigenetic and proteomic evaluations. Some of the research projects are tailored to understand aberrations in cardiac development and congenital heart disease, while others are aimed to decipher anomalies in neurodevelopment, neurodegenerative diseases, and head trauma. The program also comprises pharmacogenetic and pharmacoepigenetic research projects in non-communicable diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. A number of methodologies are used and range from low throughput candidate variants or regions of interest analyses to higher throughput experiments including microarrays and recently Next Generation Sequencing.
