ACCME Accreditation

The American Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) has awarded the Continuing Medical Education (CME) Office at AUB’s Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center (AUB-FM) provisional accreditation for two years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians. This is yet another first for our Faculty in the region. US licensed physicians at American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) as well as other physicians in Lebanon and the region can now obtain their required CME credits by attending courses prepared and validated by AUB-FM's CME office. The CME Office will be granting AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM to the CME activities it organizes.

By receiving this accreditation status, the CME Office adheres to assuring the medical community and the public by delivering education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence. Since its establishment in 2010, the CME Office has been offering continuing education activities in Lebanon and the region with the participation of expert faculty and leaders in the fields of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health. The CME Office organizes more than 60 to 70 activities per year targeting healthcare professionals in all specialties and ranging from live conferences to workshops, trainings, seminars and e-Learning programs.

The ACCME is the credentialing body for the highest category of Continuing Medical Education credits in the US; becoming a provider outside the US has been granted to very few institutions. The CME Office will be renewing their provider status in two years by preparing another self-study. The self-study will report the activities that were held in the two year accreditation period, as well as the demonstration of compliance to the criteria and standards set by the ACCME in the aim of receiving reaccreditation status for another four years.

This achievement would not have been possible without the leadership and guidance of Dr. Ghassan Hamadeh, Executive Director of CME, Dr. George Abi Saad, Co-Director of CME, Mr. Hossein Hamam, Accreditation and e-Learning Manager, and the CME Office team.
