Medical Humanism Fund News
SHBPP-MEDICAL HUMANISM FUND
76 patients were treated in 2022 and we are looking forward to help more patients. 10,000,000 million Lebanese lira
was gathered last year from donation and fundraising.
The Medical Humanism Fund (MHF) launched in 2013 by SHBPP, is dedicated to helping needy patients who present to
the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and who do not have the financial capabilities to cover
their treatment. The first of its kind in the Arab world, the fund is a voluntary initiative from students, residents and
attending physicians to their fellow human beings who need medical care. In addition to being pioneering in
community services, this fund also helps enhance the spirit of Humanism and Professionalism at AUBMC-FM.
Contributions are managed by the Social Services department at AUBMC to help patients in need of financial aid.
The MHF committee, headed by now fourth-year medical student Mr. Taha Hatab, was able to raise more than 30
million Lebanese Pounds from donations and fundraising activities held in collaboration with Khelkhal.Medical Humanism Fund Fundraiser.

The ḥara Sale (October 25, 2021)
In another joint effort between Khelkhal and the
Medical Humanism Fund Committee, the ḥara
Sale (which is our term for garage sale) under the
name “حارة الخير" was organized to collect money
for the Medical Humanism Fund which has been
one of the major sources for paying for treatment
of patients who cannot afford it at AUBMC. Donated
items were collected from donors from inside and
outside AUB throughout the month of October,
and these items were later sold in the garage sale
held in front of the Saab Medical Library.
The Medical Humanism Fund volunteers organized a fundraiser on April 26, 2021 whereby they set up a booth at the AUB SML library selling baked goods and small plants from which proceeds were dedicated to the MHF.

SHBPP Medical Humanism Fund Gathering
A small gathering was held on June 11, 2019 at the SHBPP office to thank Mr. Anwar Agha and Mrs. Agha for their generous contribution and commitment to the Humanism Fund, along with the Social Services team and the fund champions for their continuous kind support to the SHBPP Medical Humanism Fund.

Running for Humane Medicine
Inspired by the SHBPP outreach activities at the International College, Ras Beirut, 9th grade student Mr. Anwar Agha decided to take the initiative to run at the 2018 Beirut International Marathon in support of humane medicine and SHBPP’s very own motto “Medicine is about Empathy, Caring, and Curing”! Mr. Anwar Agha’s wonderful initiative was successful in garnering $2,900, achieving the set fundraising target by 145%. The funds were channeled to SHBPP’s Medical Humanism Fund, which is dedicated to help needy patients who present at the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and who cannot afford to pay for their treatment. This fund is a voluntary fund from students, residents, attending physicians and others to their fellow human beings who need medical care.
