  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Founded in 1866, AUB bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. A teaching-centered research university, AUB offers a broad spectrum of specialized and multidisciplinary graduate programs. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, life-long learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership. The University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the United States. All graduate degrees are registered with both the New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Thanks to its prime location in the heart of Beirut and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the university is an oasis of green in a bustling city. AUB’s 60-acre wooded campus has been chosen among the most beautiful in the world. It includes a state-of-the-art medical center, five contemporary libraries, cutting-edge research labs, seven dormitories, three museums, and a student sports center with an indoor pool and a private beach.
