AUB joins ProQuest Dissertations and Theses publishing program

Office of Communications,

AUB has become the first university in Lebanon to contribute its graduate works to the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses™ (PQDT) database, the leading database of dissertations and theses from the world’s greatest universities. This agreement between AUB and ProQuest unlocks global access to graduate works from the Middle East and expands the breadth of international content in PQDT.

As a participant in this publishing program, AUB will contribute its dissertations and theses, with publications dating from 1908 to present, into PQDT. With many available in full text, they will be accessible by millions of scholars and researchers through the ProQuest® platform, the Summon® and Primo® discovery services, Google Scholar, and more than 35 major subject indexes such as IET Inspec, Ei Compendex, PubMed, PsycINFO, ERIC, SciFinder, and many others.

“ProQuest is proud that our partnership with American University of Beirut will make scholarly output from Lebanon accessible to worldwide researchers for the first time,” said Rafael Sidi, senior vice president and general manager of ProQuest Information Solutions at ProQuest. “This collaboration furthers our commitment to growing PQDT globally, and continues ProQuest’s 80-year legacy of collecting, digitizing, preserving, curating, publishing, and disseminating the world’s dissertations and theses.”

With 4.7 million dissertations and theses—2.3 million in full text—PQDT is used by more than 3,000 universities around the world.

“Since its foundation in 1866, the American University of Beirut has been committed to our graduate students contributing to global knowledge and research,” said Dr. Lokman Meho, AUB university librarian and associate professor. “The distribution of digitized retrospective and current graduate works through ProQuest Dissertations and Theses offers an attractive display to showcase our past and present scholarly output to global communities. Our researchers will appreciate enhanced visibility and new collaboration opportunities.”

AUB has more than 9,000 students—including almost 2,000 graduate students—and over 900 full-time faculty members. The university has more than 90 graduate programs leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in a wide range of fields.

ProQuest is committed to supporting the important work happening in the world’s research and learning communities. The company curates content that matters to the advancement of knowledge, assembling an archive of billions of vetted, indexed documents.
