Dear Members of the AUB Community,
I am very pleased to announce that at its meetings in June of 2018, the Board of Trustees granted independent status to the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing (HSON).
This represents an historic step for the region’s oldest and most distinguished school of nursing. Following this decision, the Office of the Provost is working with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education to confirm the new status under Lebanese law, as the school moves from the jurisdiction of the Faculty of Medicine (FM) to become an independent school in its own right. The Board also approved the appointment of HSON Director, Dr. Huda Huijer, as the founding dean of the new school, effective September 1, 2018, in recognition of her outstanding academic accomplishments and her vital leadership of the school over the last 15 years.
We would like to take this opportunity to commend the founding dean-elect, faculty, and staff of HSON for their outstanding efforts in education, research, service, and leadership in the field of nursing which have led to the school's elevation to independent status. We also thank the working group led by EVP Mohamed Sayegh for their preparation of a compelling case to the Board. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Huijer and the faculty, students and staff of HSON on this historic achievement.
Best regards,
Fadlo R. Khuri, MD
President
