HSON celebrated the distribution of the Rouzan Al-Najjar Memorial Award in a special ceremony on Thursday July 28, 2022, attended by the I/Dean of the Hariri School of Nursing, Dr. Laila Farhood, Mr. Hani Qattan (chair of the YAFA Foundation) Rouzan Al-Najjar's family, and representatives from the AUB-REP (office of advancement) .
The three awards were granted to eligible nursing students at AUB-HSON, in memory of Rouzan Al Najjar, who was killed by the Israelis when doing her nursing job in 2018.
The criteria includes “nursing students that are Arabs, outstanding academic & professional promise, and intent to work in Nursing after graduation".
The event was also attended by HSON faculty and staff in addition to the awardees. It was an especially a memorable occasion for Linda Labban, BSN II, who received an award of 1000$, Michelle Shukri, BSN III, who received an award of 1500$, and Mohamad Ali Jawad, BSN IV, who received an award of 2500$. They were selected by the school of nursing faculty to receive the Rouzan Al-Najjar Memorial Award in nursing to honor Rouzan's legacy.
The I/Dean and the students spoke of the importance of these awards with a special thank you to VP Dr. Imad Baalbaki , Mr. Qattan, Director of the Yafa foundation, and Rouzan's family, for establishing these ongoing awards.
