The Hydro_Geo Group of the Department of Geology focuses mostly on research related to groundwater flow and transport in karst media. Projects include set up of the monitoring network for the acquisition of high-resolution data (climate and discharge) on poorly investigated pilot karst catchments in Metn and Kesrouane areas, specific short-term projects related to hydrochemistry and monitoring of spring responses (hydrographs and chemographs). Projects also encompass the conceptualization and integrated groundwater modeling of monitored catchment areas.
The purpose of this group is to introduce undergraduate students to Hydrogeology as a professional field that is only taught at a graduate level. It also aims at teaching the students materials and methods in applied hydrogeology from sampling methods, to stable and environmental isotopes, artificial tracer testing, pumping tests, discharge measurements using different techniques, and groundwater hydrochemistry analysis among others
