  Founded in 1866, the American University of Beirut is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education. AUB has over 8,000 students and 800 faculty members. The University encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, lifelong learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.

AUB offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor's, master's, MD, and PhD degrees. The main language of instruction is English.

Mainstreaming the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in the MENA Region Through Media

Officially launched in June 2023, the guidebook on “Mainstreaming the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda in the MENA Region Through Media" was prepared by Prof. Gretchen King and provides a brief historical background for the need to center gender in peace and security news and discusses gender-related problems in the newsroom. It provides concrete guidelines to improve the portrayal of women and girls in peace and security news, as well as to center a gendered perspective when producing and reporting on conflict and peace-building.,

This guidebook was developed by the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy & International Affairs at the American University of Beirut, under the Women Peace and Security (WPS) Initiative, and through the generous support of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).

صُمِّمت حزمة الأدوات هذه بغية تشجيع اعتماد نهج يراعي الفوارق بين الجنسين في جميع أنشطة مراكز الأبحاث ومجالات عملها، بما فيها الاجتماعات والمناقشات، البحث والتّحليل، والاتّصالات والنّشر. وتوفّر الحزمة التّوجيهات اللّازمة بشأن السّبل التي تتيح تكييف هياكل المنظّمات وأنشطتها وممارساتها، بهدف زيادة الوعي بشأن المسائل الجنسانيّة واعتماد نُهج مراعية للاعتبارات الجنسانيّة في مجالات عملها كافّة.
