  • Filippo Grandi ,IFI Senior Research Fellow in the UN and International Affairs. From 2005 till 2014, Filippo Grandi served first as Deputy Commissioner-General and then Commissioner-General of UNRWA, the UN Agency for Palestine refugees organization. Filippo joined IFI on 18 September 2014 and will be a non-resident fellow until June 2015.. He is planning to write a book of reflections on his 30 years of international work and will use this time researching on topics of relevance to this project with IFI’s support, and sharing thoughts and ideas with faculty and students. He will also participate in other IFI initiatives such as The UN in the Arab World Program, lectures, seminars and panel discussions.


  • Vijay Prashad, IFI Senior Research Fellow in the UN and International Affairs. He is also the George and Martha Kellner Chair of South Asian History and Professor of International Studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Prashad previously held the Edward Said chair at AUB. He is a columnist for Frontline, al-Araby al-Jadeed and BirGün and he reports regularly in The Hindu. He is the Chief Editor of LeftWord Books, New Delhi, India. He is currently writing The New Arab Cold War: Imperial Power and its Rivals.


  • Susann Kassem, IFI Research Affiliate. She is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. She is currently conducting her PhD dissertation research in southern Lebanon on the theory and practice of the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL). She was previously Program Coordinator for the United Nations in the Arab World program at the Issam Fares Institute. She holds an MA in Arab and Middle Eastern Studies from the American University of Beirut, and a BA in European Ethnology from Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
