​​​​​​​First Position - Research Assistant- CC&E Program​

The Climate Change and Environment Program (CC&E) at the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) is seeking to recruit a full-time Research Assistant (RA) starting April 1, 2022, for a period of 6 months. The RA will be actively involved in coordination and research activities across a variety of projects that the program is involved in.

Period: Six months

Deadline: March 15, 2022

About the CC&E Program

CC&E was launched in 2008 as part of IFI's strategy of utilizing the AUB's significant research and analytical capabilities to inform and guide public policymaking in the Arab world. The program is currently engaged in several projects on climate change and water governance, climate change and conflict, water-energy- and food security nexus, climate change and cities among others.

Principal Responsibilities:

The researcher will have an important role to play in the successful implementation of the program projects and activities through a variety of responsibilities including:

  1. Ensure proper data entry and assist in data analysis;
  2. Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on related topics;
  3. Prepare for public events, discussions and meetings;
  4. Assist in field research as needed such as interviews with stakeholders and surveys;
  5. Monitor technical and financial activities of projects as requested by Project Coordinator, Program Manager and/or Program Director;
  6. Assist in the preparation of technical reports;
  7. Ensure timely implementation of project activities.

Qualifications: 

  1. A bachelor degree in economics, or any other related field; 1-2 years of experience is a plus;
  2. Excellent command of English and Arabic is a must (spoken, read, and written); French is a plus;
  3. Proficiency in writing reports and papers;
  4. Ability to work independently;
  5. Good administrative and organizational skills.
  6. Excellent command of Microsoft Office package, with advanced knowledge of Excel; knowledge of statistical software (such as STATA or SPSS) is a plus.

Second Position - Research Assistant Refugee Research and Policy Program

The Refugee Research and Policy Program at the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) is seeking to recruit a full-time Research Assistant (RA), for a period of 1 year. The RA will be actively involved in coordination and research activities across a variety of projects that the program is involved in.

Period: 1 year

About the Refugee Research and Policy Program

The Refugee Research and Policy Program aims to collect, support, and initiate research relevant to refugees – whether Syrian, Palestinian, Iraqi, or others. The program bridges existing knowledge gaps about refugee issues in the Arab world by disseminating the regional experiences of Middle Eastern governments and addressing policy problems within their regional and global context. Thus, the objective of this program is to strengthen research, analysis, and information sharing from a local, regional, and global perspective, particularly with respect to issues pertaining to refugees and internally displaced persons.

Principal Responsibilities:

The researcher will have an important role to play in the successful implementation of the program projects and activities through a variety of responsibilities including:

  1. Assist in desktop research and literature reviews related to the project;
  2. Conduct interviews, Arabic or English;
  3. Assist in data entry, including transcription, translation (from Arabic to English) in a timely manner;
  4. Assist research team in data analysis;
  5. Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops, lectures, and conferences;
  6. Keep records of all relevant documents (hard and soft copies);
  7. Assist the lead investigator and project coordinator in other relevant tasks, including providing administrative support when necessary.

Qualifications: 

  1. Master's degree in social sciences or a relevant field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree with relevant research experience will also be considered;
  2. 1 to 3 years work experience preferable;
  3. Excellent command of English and Arabic is a must (spoken, read and written). Prior research experience in Arabic is a plus;
  4. Good administrative and organizational skills;
  5. Ability to work pro-actively, independently and efficiently;
  6. Easy mobility in all regions across Lebanon;
  7. Experience using NVivo, SPSS or other data analysis programs is a plus.

Third Position - Communications Officer

The AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) is looking for a proactive and experienced individual to take the position of “Communications Officer" on a full-time basis as part of IFI's communications office.

The Communications Officer's main responsibility is to support the communications team in events organization and publications dissemination, as well as help manage, update, and maintain IFI's website and other digital platforms.

The IFI's communications team is responsible of setting up and implementing the Institute's communications strategy with aim of increasing the outreach of the Institute's knowledge production and events, while maintaining the Institute's brand identity, and generally contributing to the overall visibility of the Institute. The Communications Officer will perform a wide range of basic communications activities.

Period: 1 year

Deadline: March 15, 2022

Starting Date: Immediately

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Support in ensuring the appropriate dissemination of publications;
  2. Assist in event planning;
  3. Maintaining IFI's website, blog, electronic newsletters, social media accounts, and other digitally produced material;
  4. Designing the website, generating and updating web pages and monitoring traffic through the site;
  5. Supporting the implementation of IFI's communications and digital media strategy across online media platforms;
  6. Monitoring and analyzing appropriate social media data/metrics, insights, and best practices to support continuous improvement;
  7. Writing, editing, and posting new web content on IFI's website;
  8. Providing support and backup as needed on social media posting and scheduling;
  9. Staying up to date on communications and digital industry standards and trends;
  10. Attending and covering the Institute's live events as applicable;
  11. Compiling and archiving photos, videos, media coverages, and documentation of all events and activities of IFI;
  12. Updating internal Sharepoint system;
  13. Offer administrative support to the communications team in tracking publications pipeline and following up with freelancers and suppliers according to deadlines;
  14. Assist communications coordinators in organizing events, and other activities; 
  15. Update databases and media lists;​
  16. Assist the Communications Manager in other relevant tasks, including providing administrative support when necessary.

Required Skills: 

  1. Experience with Content Management System platforms (such as WordPress) and HTML expertise;
  2. Expertise in Adobe suite;
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms;
  4. Proficiency in social media monitoring tools (e.g. Hootsuite, Keyhole, and other);
  5. Proficiency in email marketing platforms (e.g., Benchmark, Mailchimp similar tools)
  6. Familiarity with online marketing techniques like search engine optimization (SEO);
  7. Experience in producing and editing video content is a plus;
  8. Detail oriented and with good time management and organizational skills;
  9. Team-oriented, problem solver, relationship builder, and strong interpersonal skills;
  10. Ability to multi-task in a very fast-paced, often rapidly changing environment;​
  11. Ability to be pro-active, independent, and efficient.

Qualifications: 

  1. BA in Media studies, journalism, communications, or other related field. MA is a plus;
  2. Minimum of two years of experience in communications and digital media, in a publishing or media outlet, PR agency, university or NGO;
  3. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and Arabic; French is a plus.
