Two Research Assistants
Climate Change and Environment Program

​Starting date:  December 1, 2021

The Climate Change and Environment Program (CC&E) at the AUB Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) is looking for two research assistants to be actively involved in coordination and research activities across a variety of projects that the program is involved in. 
 

About the Climate Change and Environment Program

The CC&E Program was launched in 2008 as part of the IFI's strategy of utilizing the AUB's significant research and analytical capabilities to inform and guide public policy-making in the Arab world. The program is currently engaged in several projects on climate change in relation to conflict, water governance, and cities, and water-energy- and food security nexus, among others.

​First Position - Research Assistant- CC&E Program

  • Period

Three months.​​​

  • Principal Responsibilities

The researcher will have an important role to play in the successful implementation of the program projects and activities through a variety of responsibilities including:       

  1. Analysis of environmental articles in local media;
  2. Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on various environment-related topics;
  3. Assist in preparations for public events, discussions and meetings;
  4. Conduct field research as needed such as interviews with stakeholders and surveys;
  5. Contribute to the writing of technical reports;
  6. Ensure timely implementation of project activities.
 
  • Qualifications
  1. BS or BA in environmental policy, political sciences, natural resources management, development studies, media studies (focus on science/environment preferred) or a relevant field;
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ work experience preferably in media research;
  3. Excellent command of English and Arabic (spoken, read, and written);
  4. Proficiency in writing reports and papers;
  5. Ability to work under pressure;
  6. Good administrative and organizational skills;
  7. Good qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.

Second Position - Research Assistant- CC&E Program

  • Period

Four to twelve months.​

  • Principal Responsibilities
The researcher will have an important role to play in the successful implementation of the program projects and activities through a variety of responsibilities including:

  1. Assist in the research and development of environmental policies and related tasks;
  2. Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on topics related to environmental policies;
  3. Prepare for public events, discussions, and meetings;
  4. Conduct field research as needed such as interviews with stakeholders and surveys;
  5. Monitor technical and financial activities of projects as requested by Program Director;
  6. Prepare technical reports;
  7. Ensure timely implementation of project activities.
 
  • Qualifications
  1. Master's in environmental policy, political sciences, natural resources management, development studies, or a relevant field;
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ work experience preferably in environmental policy;
  3. Excellent command of English and Arabic (spoken, read, and written);
  4. Proficiency in writing reports and papers;
  5. Ability to work independently;
  6. Good administrative and organizational skills;
  7. Good qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
