The Climate Change and Environment Program (CC&E) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) - Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) is seeking to recruit a full-time Research Assistant (RA) expected to start on October 1, 2022, for a period of 6 months with possibility of renewal.  

Period: Six months

Deadline: Sept 15, 2022

  • About the CC&E Program

CC&E was launched in 2008 as part of IFI’s strategy of utilizing the AUB’s significant research and analytical capabilities to inform and guide public policymaking in the Arab world. The program is currently engaged in several projects on climate change and water governance, climate change and conflict, water-energy- and food security nexus, climate change and cities among others. 

  • Principal Responsibilities

​The RA will have a role to play in the successful implementation of projects activities through a variety of responsibilities, such as:  

  1. Conduct desktop research and literature reviews on related topics. 
  2. Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, papers and reviews. 
  3. Ensure proper data entry and data analysis. 
  4. Assist in the preparation of public events, discussions and meetings. 
  5. Assist in field research as needed such as interviews with stakeholders, surveys, and field work such as water sampling. 
  • Qualifications

  1. A Bachelor of Engineering in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering, a Masters’ degree in environmental studies, or any other related fields is preferred.  
  2. Experience in and good knowledge of water resources and water supply is required. 
  3. Excellent command of English and Arabic is a must (spoken, read, and written); French is a plus. 
  4. Superior writing and communication skills, including the ability to contribute to presentations, grant proposals and manuscripts. 
  5. Excellent organizational, analytic and interpretive skills. 
  6. Ability to work independently. 
  7. Excellent command of Microsoft Office package; knowledge of statistical software (such as STATA or SPSS) is a plus.
