On March 4, 2019, we launched the 8th initiative of our Transformative Education drive at AUB, in which we host Ig Nobel Prize winners to give Public Talks at AUB. The Ig Nobel Prize, founded by Dr. Marc Abrahams, is bestowed every year to 10 individuals, who “make people LAUGH, and then THINK”. The winners receive their awards in Sander’s Theatre at Harvard University in front of a crowd of around 11,000 people to “celebrate the unusual, honor the imaginative”. This highly intrigues the interest in science, medicine, and technology particularly among the young minds. Nobel Laureates themselves hand over the Ig Nobel Prizes to the winners for their remarkable discoveries and inventions. Subsequently, these winners get invited to MIT to deliver research talks about their discoveries.
