From the Classroom to the Newsroom: A new Special Training for the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Media Studies Program at the American University of Beirut jointly present the first special training for researchers and academics on Opinion (Op-ed) writing and effective communication for the faculty members.
In the era of fake news and alternative facts, it is critically important to strengthen the relationship between academicians and journalists of all kinds.
In line with the Faculty of Health Sciences’ vision in being an advocate for public health as much as a leader and a path setter in public health education and research, this training comes to strengthen the faculty’s capacities to share knowledge and make an impact via effective communication.
The three-session training will cover the concept and application of opinion (op-ed) writing and effective media communication. All participants will improve their strategic thinking in identifying and targeting the right audience. In addition, the sessions will include tips and tricks on how to keep the audience’s attention during any communication process, from a 30-second soundbite and two-minute television interview, to a 140-word tweet or an 800-word op-ed article.
Organized by the Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center and facilitated by Mr. Rami Khouri, Professor of Journalism, at the Media Studies Program at the American University of Beirut, the training will focus on both academic and communication perspectives to meet halfway and disseminate the right information in the right context.
The sessions will be held on the 6th, 8th and 13th of February 2019, from 4:30 pm till 6:30 pm in the Vandyck building (Rooms 118-101).
Please note that the number of participants is limited to 15.
