This meeting was convened to discuss and address peer reviewer comments on the Commission report draft of December 2017, and map the way forward.
All Commission Meeting | 25 - 27 October 2017 | American University of Paris, France
This meeting was convened with the participation of Lancet editors, Richard Horton (Editor-in-Chief) and Pam Das (Senior Executive Editor) to review the first draft of the Commission report and agree on a way forward, including deadlines and deliverables.
The meeting was hosted by the American University of Paris (AUP Professor and Commissioner Ziad Majed). AUP President Professor Celeste M. Schenck opened the meeting.

During this meeting, Commission Co-Chairs and Thematic Group Co-Leads reviewed advanced progress reports of the Thematic Groups.

During this meeting, Commissioners reviewed progress of research work in the various Thematic groups, discussed overlap and work across Thematic Groups, and agreed on a schedule of meetings, deadlines and deliverables leading to the submission of the Commission report to The Lancet in January 2018. AUB President Fadlo Khuri opened the meeting.
Meeting of the Research & Documentation Team (RDT) | 25-26 February 2017 | American University of Beirut, Lebanon
This was the first face-to-face meeting of the multi-institutional RDT, which includes in addition to the AUB-based team, researchers from the Havard FXB Center for Health & Human Rights and the Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED). Participations discussed the organization and mode of work of RDT, reviewed sources of data for the Commission, listened to presentation of preliminary analyses of several datasets, and agreed on plans to support research work in the Thematic Groups.
Research Work Scoping Meeting | 6 January 2017 | The Lancet office, London, UK
This meeting was hosted by the Lancet leadership team at the Lancet offices in London. The main objective of the meeting was to build on the discussions and outcomes of the First (inaugural) meeting to move the Commission forward where Commissioners (and experts) identified a large number of issues as of interest to the work of the Commission. During this second meeting, these issues were examined in detail, prioritized and grouped thematically. The main outcome was an outline of the thematic areas as well as areas of sub-thematic focus and a plan to divide the research work of the Commission into six thematic areas (see Thematic Work). As such, the meeting led to clear direction for the research work of the Commission.

The First (Inaugural) Meeting of the Lancet-AUB Commission on Syria: Health in Conflict was held on December 1 and 2, 2016 hosted by the hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut
The aim of the meeting was to initiate in-depth discussions about the Commission and set it on its path. The specific objectives of the meeting were to review and revise 1) the aim and objectives and corresponding composition and structure, 2) scope of inquiry (including thematic areas) and 3) available data and plans for evidence gathering and 4) plan of work of the Commission
Participants included the the Lancet team, Commission co-chairs, commissioners, members of the International Secretariat supporting the Commission, selected Faculty of Health Sciences and American University of Beirut (host institution) leadership and faculty, and selected experts and partners.
